An arrangement permitting transfer of irradiated materials between a transport flask and a hot cell comprises a table 16 having legs 20 of adjustable height and carrying a rocking support 4 for a flask 2. A toothed sector 52 on the support 4 engages a rack 54 on the table whereby by moving a handle 50 the flask 2 is rocked from the vertical position, shown, to a horizontal position (Fig. 2, not shown) in which the flask mouth 60 is opposite a passageway through a plug 30 in the shield wall 26 of the hot cell 24. Before the flask is rocked to the horizontal its closure plug 8 is removed by a lifting hook 10; also, a plug 44 is removed from the passageway by a grappling device 46 within a tube 48 integral with the support 4. The chamber 24 is lined with an impervious membrane 28 connected through a ring 34 with a flexible sealing member 36, a cup-shaped sealing member 38 within the member 36 surrounding the plug 44, this cup being withdrawn by a grab situated within the chamber.
