Abstract

A tank containing a solid/liquid mixture which is to be removed by a bucket elevator, suction pipe or like means, is provided with means for causing a periodic pulse of liquid or air in the mixture to maintain the solid in suspension. As described the pulse is created by opening a valve to a container of air under pressure the valve being controlled by the rise in air pressure in the container or by a valve actuated by the conveyor or separate means. In the embodiment of Fig. 5 (not shown) a pump withdraws the mixture either from the bottom of the tank through an opening therein or from the top through an an adjustable height stand pipe which connects with the opening and has a portion which closes direct access between the tank and the opening.
