Abstract

1,195,734. Measuring specific gravity. CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE. Aug.2, 1967 [Aug.4, 1966], No.35458/67. Heading G1S. In apparatus for determining the specific mass of a sample e.g. powder, the sample P is placed in a container G supported by a thread 17 attached to one arm 2 of a balance such that the sample is weighed in air and degassed under vacuum in the same enclosure 6 and then reweighed when immersed in a fluid fed in from a reservoir 11. The enclosure is supported in a Dewar vessel 15 and a thermometer 9 is provided, in a modification. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the enclosure for the fluid is divided by a position to avoid interference from bubbles from the end of the filler tube and a heater is also provided; the thermometer is in a sliding tube so that it may be withdrawn during heating.
