Abstract

108,364. Croxon, W. Aug. 9, 1916. Parachutes.-To facilitate the opening of a parachute for use with aircraft, an annular " curtain " A of silk, linen, indiarubber, &c. is attached to the periphery of the parachute A' and is connected by lines C to thimbles B sliding on the main lines D, which are secured to the periphery of the body A<1>. The curtain does not support any weight until the thimbles B engage stops on the lines D. In a modification, the main lines D are attached to a band fitted round inside the parachute, the periphery of which is then connected by the lines C to the thimbles B. A flap valve may be fitted at the apex of the parachute. The container for the parachute is preferably of stream-line shape, and may be formed of two spring-hinged parts, so that the whole parachute is presented to the air when a catch is released.
