129,732. Adams, Sir H. E. F. Goold-, and Collins, S. L. Dec. 13, 1917. Parachutes.-The basket or the like or mail or other carrying device of a balloon or the like is adapted to be rapidly detached so as to bring its weight to bear on a parachute. Fig. 1 shows the basket a of a balloon suspended by a rope d passing through eyes c, so that when the rope d is cut with a knife, the basket falls and withdraws a parachute f, to which it is connected by ropes g. In a modification, Fig. 5, the basket is released by withdrawing a pin n by means of a lever o. When applied to an air-ship, a detachable compartment is fitted in the gondola. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 127,881.
