1,083,383. Casting composite ingots; moulds. STAHLUND WALZWERK RIESA, VEB. March 8, 1965, No. 9752/65. Heading B3F. [Also in Division F2] Steel ingots having an alloy or modified alloy core are produced by bottom pouring the steel which is to form the outer layer then, after solidification of a marginal zone, adding through the pouring gate solid or liquid alloying constituents. The solid constituents are introduced, after a pause, with steel in liquid condition. In the case of liquid constituents, a steel core alloy is introduced after the pause. The runners may be enlarged to 60 mm. to avoid chilling the steel when adjusting the outer layer by slow pouring and allowing a long pause before adding the extra constituents. Exothermic mixtures or heating may be used to keep the top open before alloying.
