Abstract

1,081,256. Overhead cranes. ROLLS ROYCE Ltd. June 4, 1966, No. 24981/66. Heading B8B. An overhead crane adapted to lift or lower articles at a slant comprises a hoisting rope 14 operable by means not shown and passing over and rotating thereby a pulley 13. The pulley 13 has attached thereto a sprocket 19 connected by a chain 20 to a sprocket 21 rotatable about a shaft (23). A clutch (24) axially slidable on said shaft and rotatable therewith may engage the sprocket 21 to rotate the shaft (23) and thereby a further sprocket (30) mounted thereon. The further sprocket (30) engages a chain (31) attached to a horizontal guider 10 whereby on hoisting an article the sprocket (30) is rotated and the crane is moved simultaneously in a horizontal direction. With the clutch disengaged the sprocket 21 merely rotates on the shaft (23) and the articles may be hoisted without horizontal movement of the crane. The pulley 13 is mounted on a yoke 12 suspended by wheels 11 from the guider 10.
