Abstract

A stainless steel has the following percentage composition:- .C.0.02-0.04 .Si.0.2-1 .Mn.0.2-2 .Cr.15-18 .Ni.4-6 .Mo.0-2 .N.0.02-0.08 .Fe.the balance, the constituents satisfying the following relationships:-Cr + Si + Mo + Ni + 0.5 Mn + 30 (C + N) = 24.5-26.2 1.4 (Cr + Si + Mo)-[Ni + 0.5 Mn + 30 (C + N)] = 16.5-19 The steel may be air hardened from about 1000 DEG C. and tempered at 500-630 DEG C. After welding it may be annealed at the tempering temperature.
