A door comprises anelongated member 10 fastening means whichis provided with a handle (not shown) and which is adapted to be mounted on a door 13 so as to be angularly movable about an axis which is parallel or coincident with its own longitudinal axis and which is also parallel or substantially parallel with the hinge axis of the door, said elongated member having at each end a claw 11 comprising a pair of jaws 14, 15 which project laterally from said member and there being provided in association with each claw, a keeper 16 adapted to be mounted on the door surround, the arrangement being such that in use and on moving the door from an open towards a closed position the jaw 15 of each claw will strike the other side of the associated keeper to initiate angular movement of said elongated member whereafter continued angular movement of said member by use of said handle will result in the other jaw 14 taking up a position on the inner side of the catch means to retain the door in a closed position. In the contruction shown each keeper incorporates a roller which is engageable with the associated claw.
