Abstract

1,080,798. Door latches. ETABLISSEMENTS COUSIN FRERES. Oct. 1, 1965 [Oct. 7, 1964], No. 41718/65. Heading E2A. A latch for a door comprises a plate 1 supporting a semi cylindrical housing 16 for a part cylindrical, spring returned rotatable bolt 17 and a guide 3 mounted on the plate and with flanges 5, 6 and 7 extending at right angles to the guide and a rod 10 for a spring urged shoe 11 so that when the door is closed a striker 25 having two spaced teeth 28, 29 strikes a part cylindrical portion 31 projecting from the bolt rotating the bolt to allow entry of the striker into the guide either to the safety latching position with the bolt portion 31 between the teeth or to the complete latching position with the portion behind the tooth 28 against the shoe 11 which slides against the action of the spring 12 wedging against the flange 7. A surface 27 on the striker engages the flange 5. A spring 19 on an extension of the bolt returns the bolt to its initial position the portion 31 retains the striker in the latch. To release the latch an internal lever or an external lever connected therewith is operated to cause a nose 39 on the lever engaging in a recess in the bolt to rotate the bolt so that the portion 31 is removed from the path of the teeth. The striker is withdrawn from the guide 3 by the action of the spring 12 restoring the shoe to its initial position.
