A neck label B (Fig. 3) is pressed on to a bottle by rollers 37, 38 mounted in the path of the bottle on a pivot 32 carried by an arm 27 which is in turn pivoted at 29, so that the bottle pushes the rollers, against the bias of springs 35, 31, to cause the bracket to rock (Fig. 4, not shown) to form a pocket for receiving the bottle neck, with the roller 38 pressing the tail B<SP>1</SP> of the label against the bottle. A similar device, but formed as the mirror image of that shown in Fig. 3, applies the other tail B<SP>2</SP> of the label to the bottle where it may overlap the first tail. A further device may apply further pressure. Each roller 37, 38 consists of a plurality of rollers, arranged on a pair of shafts 36 (Fig. 3) which converge upwardly. The devices may be spaced at (24), (25), (25<SP>1</SP>) (Fig. 1, not shown) about the periphery of a bottle-conveying wheel (7) receiving bottles from a conveyer (2) and a star wheel (4) and delivering them back to the conveyer (2) via a wheel (10). The bottles are held on the conveying wheel by top clamps (16) operated by a fixed cam (12). Body labels (A) are applied at the same time as the neck labels, by a pick-up plate (20) as described in Specification 954,121.
