Abstract

1280889 Capping bottles etc; endless conveyers CONGEX 4 Aug 1969 [8 Nov 1968] 38960/69 Headings B8A and B8T A machine for sealing bottles comprises an endless chain 4 for conveying cap grippers 5, and a bottle conveying web 12, both the chain 4 and web 12 being driven by the same motor 126, their relative motions being synchronized. Each time a gripper assembly 3 passes in front of the outlet of the cap magazine 1, the gripper jaws (51), (51A), Fig. 3 (not shown), are closed under the action of roller wheels (91), Fig. 4 (not shown), and a cap 2 is taken in the jaws and borne to meet the advancing assembly of bottles 11. The cap is caused to engage the bottleneck 2<SP>1</SP>, the gripper 5 opening under the action of wheels (101), (102), Fig. 2 (not shown). The gripper 5 is caused to effect a pivotal movement about its axis by means of the groove-cams 108 and 109 for alignment with the cap assembly. The machine may include an electromagnetic safety device which prevents a cap being gripped when one or more bottles is missing on the conveying web 12.
