Abstract

1,079,513. Collapsible furniture. E. BRUGOLA. Jan. 12, 1965 [Jan. 21, 1964; March 2, 1964], No. 1280/65. Headings A4H and A4J. A folding underframe for a collapsible chair, table, desk &c. comprises bearing members 1, 2 welded in tangential position to upper and lower plates 3, 4, and a bearing member 5 slid between the plates and secured by a hollow bush 6a so as to rotate to lie beside the members 1, 2, the members 1, 2 and 5 being locked in opened-out position by engagement in seatings 10 between abutments 9 on the underside of the chair seat 8, or table top, which is locked to the underframe by a bolt 11 threaded through a plate 12 having pins 13 for engagement in the seat 8. Posts 7 receive sleeves of a chair back and may carry a leaf spring provided with a button, or a button urged out of a casing by a coil spring, for snap engagement in an aperture in a sleeve. In modifications the bearing members are hinged to the bush or the bearing member 5 is fitted between the plates 3, 4 so that the posts 7 fold to a side-by-side position.
