Abstract

Mantle supports.-In an inverted burner, one or more recessed flanges, or one or more rows of horizontal projections, are formed on the burner mouth, or the mantle ring, or on both, in addition to the ordinary mantle-supporting lugs, in order to prevent an unnecessary escape of ignited gas or combustion products at the top of the mantle. The recesses in the upper flange or the spaces between the upper row of projections are immediately below the supporting-lugs. Fig. 5 shows a recessed flange i on the burner nozzle a having ordinary supporting-lugs e. The burner nozzle may be provided with two or more flanges having their recesses in staggered relationship, or with circular, spiral, or otherwise arranged rows of projections, and the flanges or projections may be wavy, or corrugated, or curved, or concave-convex in crosssection. The internal flanges or projections on the mantle rings may be provided with slits for aiding the flow of the combustion gases.
