Abstract

[Also in Division H1] The suppression effect of a # filter is improved by surrounding the inductor with a sleeve of magnetically soft material. Normally, the inductor and capacitors constituting the # filter are sealed within a metal tube filled with synthetic resin and in the prior art the tube has the disadvantageous effect of considerably reducing the effective inductance of the filter; however, by adding the magnetically soft sleeve the field generated by the inductor is contained thereby minimizing the effect on such field of the metal tube. As shown in Fig. 4, the inductor comprises a dust core H<SP>1</SP> on which is wound a coil H surrounded by a ferrite sleeve L. In a modification for use with higher currents, Fig. 5, the sleeve comprises a number of rings L<SP>2</SP> separated from one another and bonded together by epoxy resin. In a further modification of Fig. 4 (Fig. 8, not shown) the sleeve has a longitudinal slot to avoid magnetic saturation.
