Abstract

107,733. Stewart,. R. Jan, 16, 1917. Spindle apparatus; thread-guides; winding-machines.-Cops are wound upon bare spindles in spinning-frames by means comprising a sleeve b, driven by a loose pulley e through a clutch f, and carrying at its upper end a cone j. The thread is led from the drawing-rollers round a pulley on the side of the cone j, through a traversing guide p, and through a slit in the cone to the spindle a, which is situated in the sleeve b and supported in a balanced footstep c. The guide p is carried by a collar k rotating with the sleeve b and traversed by an eccentric n. The clutch f is held in gear by a catch g<1> or a weighted lever i and is released by a rod h rising with the footstep c. The thread passes through a slotted guide q pivoted on the usual eyeboard and moved out of the way of the rising spindle by the rod s mounted on the footstep c. The guide q may be carried by the rod s. A loose rotating disk with slots leading into guide. eyes may be mounted on the top of the spindle to engage the thread when the guide q is moved out of the way.
