Hatches and hatchways; fenders. - In an enclosed cylindrical life-boat having a conical bow and stern 5, 4, the hatchways 2 are arranged to extend over the whole width of the boat, the cover or lids 3 slide longitudinally, and are made of smaller radius than the midships. Upon closing, the covers are bent outwards against a packing-ring 15 by pivoted bolts and nuts 14 which swivel into notches in the edges of the covers. The bow 5, stern 4, and midship parts 1 are riveted to annular frames 6 provided with blocks 16 for taking up shocks.
