Abstract
170,722. MacGregor, R. Aug. 20, 1920. Frames and framing; sectional vessels. -In a sectional barge of the dumb, motor, or tank type comprising midship sections a, b and bow and stern sections d, e, the midship sections are connected longitudinally by.double channel bars f, f, riveted or bolted back to back to form a central keelson, and are connected to the bow and stern sections by angleframes p. The channel bars may be replaced by a similar construction in anglebars or flanged plates. The sections of a plurality of these barges may be stowed in the hold of a steamer for transport, the midship sections nesting in each other and being stowed on the port and starboard sides of the hold so as to form a housing in which the bow and stern sections are nested. The hatch sides k and the deck g are stowed on the centre-line of the hold between the opposed edges of the midship sections, and the castings, motors, and bulwarks o are stowed inside the last barge. The barges may be assembled afloat in the following manner. All the sections are fitted with temporary end bulkheads, and the midships sections are riveted together with a longitudinal centreline bulkhead. The sections are then launched and assembled afloat, permanent bulkheads being fitted in place of the temporary fittings.
