Abstract

107,447. Kannel, T. van. July 25, 1916. Limbs, artificial.-The socket of an artificial limb is secured in place on the natural stump by means of a sliding member engaging the edges of the socket. In the construction shown, the edges of the socket A carry metal strips B, C formed with honkshaped edges B<1>, C' adapted to be engaged by the hooked edges D<1> of a sliding connecting-piece D. The hooked edge B' extends to the top of the strip B, but the edge C' is cut away at its upper end. Both edges B<1>, C' are turned inwards at the bottom to form a stop for the slide D. A leather strip E riveted to the slide D fills the space between the hooked edges and is extended to form a handle E<1>. The socket is provided with pockets F to receive steel side bars and with a perforated tab G and may be adjusted in size by means of lacing, detachable linings, slides of varying width, or hooked edges adjustable on the edges of the socket.
