a. B. SHIVELY SAFETY CLAMP I Filed Sept. l2. \192;
amnion GeorgeBS'ziue/a Patented Dec. 18, 1928.
UNITED STATES GEORGE BAR/TEAM SHIVELY, OF WAYNESBORO, PENNSYLVANIA.
SAFETY CLAMP.
Application filed September 12, 1927. Serial No. 219,058.
My invention relates to safety clamps for bill folders and the like and it is an object of the invention to provide a clamping device attached to a bill folder or purse whereby 6 the purse may be detachably fastened to clothing. r
A further object of the invention is to provide a fastening device of this character which will permit the bill folder to rest securely in the pocket regardless of the depth of the pocket and to rest on the bottom of the pocket instead of being suspended from the rim of the pocket;
Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 is a view of my device attached to the hip pocket of the wearer.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device.
Figure 3 is a section through the line 33 of Fig. 2, and
Figure 1 is a view similarto Fig. 3 of a modified form of the device.
In the drawings reference character 10 indicates a bill folder or purse of familiar construction having a plurality of longitudinal pockets 11 formed between the walls 12 and 13 of the purse.
As is well known, bill folders of this type are usually folded along a line 1 midway of the folder. Attached to one side of the purse is a strip 15 preferably of the same material from which the bill folder is formed although more rigid than the leather of the bill folder. This strip 15 is attached to the bill folder at 16 and 17 being either sewed or fastened by rivets or other fasteners. Secured around the strip 15 is a clamp 18 which is adapted to slip over the member 15 and to slide longitudinally thereon. This clamp 1'? is elongated as at 19 and has on the upper end thereof a snap fastener 20 of well-known construction. The fastener 20, as shown in Fig. 1, is adapted to grip the upper edge of the pocket and secure the bill folder thereto allowing the folder to rest within the pocket. The clamp 18, having a slidable engagement with the strip 15, permits the bill folder to rest i the bottom of the pocket of the wearer rather than upon the edge of the poo ret. The clamp 18 is secured around the strip 15 preferably before the latter is attached to the bill folder. As shown in Fig. 4, the strip 15 may be at tached to the inner side 13 of the bill folder this strip may be of other material which is instead of the outside, as shown in Fig. 2. This, construction protects the pocket from engagement with the sliding clamp 18 and therefore saves the wear and tear due to friction of the metal clamp on the cloth material of the pocket. However, either construction provides a bill folder securing device which allows the folder to rest firmly in the pocket vithout resting on the upper rim or edge of the pocket. 7
While 1 have defined and des -ribed my de vice with a view to its use with a hill folder or purse, it is obvious the device is not limited to thisuse. lhe device, obviously, could be used for holding keys or any objects which it is desired to secure accide loss and to allow them to rest in the pocket ra than to be suspended from the pocket. 7
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may he made in iy device without departing from tl e soirit of the invention, and 1, therefore, do not limit myself to what is shown in the drawings and de scribed in the specification, but only as set forth in the appended claims. Having thus fully set forth my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: V 1. A device of the kind described compri 1 ing a bill folder, an elongated strip attached thereto, a slidable clamp ada ed l e tioned around said strip l w at which it is attached to the b adapted to slide upon said strip, the 1 having an elongated 'upwz dly portion having attached thereto securing the device upon the p person, substantially as set forth, 5
2. A device of the kind described comprising bill folder, a strip fastened to the in side'of said folder, a clamp slidably i said strip, and means on the clamp for J attaching the device to the pocket of a person 0 I J: L n v 7 substantially asset iorth. 3. A bill folder holding device con a strip attached to the inside of the b a clamp slidably attached to the means on the clamp for attach? to the rim of the pocket of a persons clothing, substantially asset forth. I
In witness whereof, I havohereuntoset-my hand at Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, this 20th day of August, A. D. nineteen hundred and twenty-seven.
GEORGE BARTRAM SHIVELY.
