Application January 31, 1933. Serial No. 654,528
3 Claims. (01. 240-59) This invention-relates to a holding means for strip 3 substantially at right angles to the flange lamps and has relation more particularly to a 2 and of a length to project beyond opposite device of this general character intended to be sides. of the plate or member 1. The strip 3 is carried by a belt and which engages a lamp or flat and is secured, as at 4, to the belt B in any. 5 similar device in a manner to hold such lamp desired manner, such as for example by rivets.
or device in fixed position upon the belt. It is The opposite end portion of the member'or plate primarily an object of the invention to provide 1 has a returned portion 5 lapping the inneror a device of this kind especially designed and rear face of the plate or member 1 and spaced adapted for use in connection with miners lamps. therefrom. 10 The invention consists in the details of con- Adjacent portions of the member or plate 1 and struction and in the combination and arrangethe returned portion 5 or lip as it may be called ment of the several parts of my improved holding are provided with a notch extending through the means for a lamp whereby certain important returned bend a whereby an opening 6 is pro advantages are attained and the device rendered vided for the finger 7 of a'keeper K. The keeper l5 simpler, less expensive and otherwise more con- K as herein disclosed comprises a strip 8 riveted, venient and advantageous for use, as will be as at 9, or otherwise secured to the belt B, and a hereinafter more fully set forth. marginal portion of the strip 8 is provided with The novel features of my invention will herea reverted flange 10, the returned portion 1) of inafter be definitely claimed. which having projecting from its free longitudinal 20 In order that my invention may be the better margin the finger 7 hereinbefore referred to. understood, I will now proceed to describe the This finger 7 as herein disclosed is integral with same with reference to the accompanying drawthe returnedportion b of the keeper K and is ing, whereinz substantially coplanar therewith.

bodiment of my invention, the coacting loop of The foot portion 01 of the finger 'l is of a width the lamp or the like being in section; substantially equal to the length of the opening 6 Figure 2 is a view in top plan of the structure of the member or plate 1 so that when the plate as illustrated in Figure 1, the lamp being diagramor member 1 is engaged with the keeper K rat- 30 matically indicated by broken lines with the rear tling is substantially eliminated.
or back wall in full lines; In practice, the member or plate 1 is inserted Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially through the loop L of the back wall of the lamp on the line 3-3 of Figure 1; and then the plate or member 1 is somanipulated Figure 4 is a view in elevation showing the as to direct the finger 7 through the opening 6.
35 relative positions of the parts of the holding In order to do this the portion of the belt bemeans controlling either the securing or separattween the strips 3 and 5 must be so flexed as to ing operation; allow the plate or member 1 to be transversely Figure 5 is a View in perspective of the eloninclined with respect to its longitudinal axis gated member or plate as herein comprised; whereupon the desired connection between the v 40 Figure 6 is a view in perspective of the keeper member or plate 1 and keeper may be readily as herein disclosed. effected. This connection between these two parts As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, B is further facilitated by the fact that the opendeno es a belt or waist encircling member of any ing 6 of the member or plate 1 is of a length desired type and W the back wall of a miners in excess of the length of the leg e of the finger 7. In order to assure the portions of the reverted strip being maintained separated an end portion of the reverted strip is provided with a finger 11 overlying the strip 8, the free end portion of said finger 11 carrying a flange 12 disposed toward the strip 8 for direct contact therewith.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a holding means for a lamp constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed. I t
I claim:-
1. A holding means comprising, in combination,an attaching member, a plate, a strip carried by one end portion of the plate and secured to the attaching member, said plate being offset with respect to the strip, the opposite end portion of the plate having a returned lip, the bent portions of the plate and lip being cut out to 'provide an opening, a keeper comprising a strip tion, an attaching member, a plate, a strip carried by one end portion of the plate and secured to the attaching member, said plate being ofiset with respect to the strip, the opposite end portion of the plate having a returned lip, the bent portions of the plate and lip being cut out to provide an opening, a keeper comprising a strip secured to the attaching member at a point spaced from the attaching strip of the plate, a reverted flange carried by the strip of the keeper, and an angular arm carried by the free marginal portion of the flange for insertion through the opening of the plate, the portion of the attaching member between the strip of the plate and the strip of the keeper being flexible to allow the plate to be angularly disposed to facilitate the engagement or removal of the plate with respect to the keeper, the lip of the plate meshing with the reverted flange of the keeper when the plate is engaged with the keeper.
3. A holding means comprising, in combination, an attaching member, a plate, a strip carried by one end portion of the plate and secured to the attaching member, said plate being ofiset with respect to the strip, the opposite end portion of the plate having a returned lip, the bent portions of the plate and lip being cut out to provide an opening, a keeper comprising a strip secured to the attaching member at a point spaced from the attaching strip of the plate, a reverted flange carried by the strip of the keeper, an
angular arm carried by the free marginal portion of the flange for insertion through the opening of the plate, the portion of the attaching member between the strip of the plate and the strip of the keeper being flexible to allow the plate to be angularly disposedto facilitate the engagement or removal of the plate with respect to the keeper, and means carried by the outer portion of the reverted flange and coacting with the strip of the keeper to maintain spaced the portions of the reverted flange.
