March 22, 1927, Fastening; designs of boots and shoes.-Court shoes, nursery shoes, slippers &c. are provided all round the foot opening with a non-elastic fringe 1, Fig. 1, or equivalent through which is threaded one or more elastic cords 8 or springs to cause the fringe &c. to conform closely to, or to grip, the wearer's foot. The fringe consists of a strip, preferably of thin leather, which is folded and slashed at intervals, as shown at 3, along the fold. It may be sewn to the upper or to the lining, or between these parts, or it may be integral with the upper or lining. In the form shown in Fig. 8, the fringe is replaced bv a series of loops 21. The ends of the elastic cord may be either simply joined together, or connected by metal fasteners, ornamented or otherwise, or by one or more links of wire. If desired, the fringe &c. may be formed separately from the shoe and detachably connected to it by press fastenings &c.
