Abstract

465,012. Foot-arch supports. HUTCHINGS & CO., Ltd., G. F., and HUTCHINGS, R. W. Feb. 21, 1936, No. 5308. [Class 17 (ii)] A support for the arch, waist, and instep of the foot comprises a single piece of material extending laterally across the whole length of the waist of the shoe, where it is secured to the sole, and tapering in width at each side a, where it extends upwardly inside the shoe but is not attached thereto, and is associated at its ends with means, such as straps b, b<1>, for fastening the shoe and drawing the support about the instep of the wearer. A supporting pad or insert may be attached to one of the parts a to afford . further support if.desired. The central portion of the support may be secured between the inner and outer soles and, if desired, may be omitted, the ends of the supporting parts a being secured to the sole. The fastening straps b, b<1> may pass outwards through slits h in the upper, or through buckles or loops secured to the upper, and may be fastened by buckles, as shown, laces, buttons or other means. The opposing sides of the upper may also be drawn together by elastic strips which extend between ears on the upper on opposite sides, and through slits in which ears the straps b, b<1> may pass.
