[Class 17 (ii)] The upper of a shoe or sandal is formed by attaching to a sole-member one or more flat, round, or plaited straps, preferably by lacing the straps through holes in the sole, to form loops and interconnecting these loops by rings. In the form shown, two straps are provided, one 3 for the forepart and the other 4 for the heel, and the loops formed by passing these through holes 2 in the insole 1, or in a welt or a separate sole, are held together by rings S. The portions of the loops are held in position by notches 5 in the sole-member to which they are attached.
