This invention relates to new and novel improvements in shoes.
The objects of this invention are to provide a shoe that may be attached to the foot with ease, that will retain its shape after considerable use, and to provide a shoe that will be of ornamental appearance.
I attain these objects by providing an elastic portion to the shoe and by providing a flexible portion that covers the elastic portion of the shoe.
Another object is to provide a shoe that protects thestocking from excessive wear, and this is attained by providing the flexible portion both above and below the elastic portion of the shoe, the elastic fabric being disposed between smooth leather covers.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a shoe constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the inner tongue member. Fig. 4 is plan View of the outer tongue members. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary View showing the shoe body in section, and the tongue members in their relation to the elastic section. Fig. 6 is a fragmentary and top plan view, with the outer tongue removed, showing the elastic section connected to the body of the shoe. Fig. 7 is a plan and detail view of the loop portion, showing the lacing thereon.
Referring in detail to the drawings, a shoe 11 has a central elastic fabric portion 12, leather portions 13, provided with shoe lacing 14. which is for ornamental purposes only, and a leather portion 15, extending beneath the elastic portion 12. Leather strip 15, being of a softer and more flexible leather, is provided with an outer reinforcing strip 16. Leather portions 13, have their upper edges by stitching 17 secured to strip 16, and their opposite outer corners secured to the body 11, by stitching 18, which is the only connection between strips 13 and body 11. The leather portions 13, 15 and 16, are not secured in any way to the elastic fabric portion 12, but form a pocket for portion 12 to pass through. Elastic portion 12 is secured to body 11 on three edges by stitching 9.
In use, the shoe may be slipped off and on the foot with ease, either using the hand or the other foot to remove the shoe. The outer portions 13 are ornamental in appearance, and appear as and simulate a laced shoe. Portion 15, being connected at its lower end with the body of the shoe by stitching 10, and being connected to strip 16, will always retain its original shape and not crumple or wrinkle to cause annoyance to the user, and presents a smooth surface to'the stocking, thereby not injuring the same and preventing excessive wear. Leather portions 13 are secured to body 11 by stitching 18, and to tip 16 by stitching 17, and leather portion 15 is secured to body 11, by stitching 10, and to leather portion 16, by stitching 17. a
What is claimed is:
1. In a shoe, an elastic portion centrallydisposed in the upper part of the shoe, leather portions extending over the elastic portion, and being unattached thereto, an inner member of softer leather extending-under the elastic portion and being unattached thereto, and a leather portion 16 to which the upper ends of the outer and inner leather members are secured.
2. In a shoe having a leather upper portion, an elastic fabric disposed in the upper'of the shoe, outer and inner leather tongue portions extending over the elastic fabric and being unattached thereto, ornamental lacing disposed on the outer leather tongue portion, the inner leather tongue portion extending under the elastic fabric and being unattached thereto, said tongue portions being connected at one end to the body portion of the shoe, and the upper ends of said tongue portions being connected together.
