Description

March 15,1927.
B.- s. BONAVENTURE COVER FOR BALLET SLIPPERS Filed April 2, 1926 Patented Mar. 15, 1927.
UNITED STATES IBABNEY S. BONAVENTUBE, O1 NEW YORK, N. 1'.
COVER FOR BALLET SLIPPERS.
Application filed April 2,
This invention relates to a cover for ballet slippers, one of the objects of the invention being to provide a device of this character which can be fitted snugly upon the slipper so as to enclose it completely and prevent it from becoming soiled. s
It is also an object of the invention to provide a changeable cover for a ballet slipper and by having covers of different colors the slippers can be made to match the costumes worn.
A further object is to provide a cover which is inexpensive and has embodied in its construction a simple and efiicient means for insuring a snug fit upon the toe portion of the slipper. 1
A still further object is to provide a cover having a wear pad on the toe portion.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise. embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may bemade within the scope of what is claimed Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the cover.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
'Figure 3 is a bottom plan view. 'Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4, Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a top plan view of the toe portion of the cover, the same being shown stretched, as when fitted to a slipper.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates the side portions of the cover which are preferably connected along the bottom and back portions to provide a seam 2. The vamp of the cover has inserted therein a strip 3 of elastic fabric which extends from the instep to the toe portion and thence backwardly within the sole or bottom portion for a distance of approximately one and one-half inches, the
of the inserted piece. wear strip 4 1926. Serial m. 99,820.
formed of chamois, kid. or other soft material of a like nature is cemented or -otherwise attached to the toe portion of the fabric strip 3 but does not extend throughout the width thereof. This wear strip is adapted to receive the wear resulting from toe dancing while the cover is in use.
The upper edge portion of the cover is provided with a continuous binding 5 turned over to constitute a casing in which is arranged a draw string 6 the ends of which project through an opening 7 in the casing preferably at the front thereof.
As heretofore stated this covering is made of a fabric and it .can be of any color desired. When it is applied to a ballet slipper the toe portion of the slipper will cause'the toe portion of the cover to stretch laterally and, consequently, a snug fit of the cover upon the slipper and the dancer will not be inconvenienced in any way by the use of the cover.- Strip 4 will receive the weight of the dancer while supported on the toes and will receive the greater portion of the wear to which the cover is subjected. By means of the draw string 6 the marginal portion of the cover can be drawn snugly about the foot. This cover will completely enclose the slipper and, obviously, will fully protect it from wear and dirt. By having pairs of covers of different. colors the same slippers can be' used with different ('flh'tllmP-i and match the same.
What is claimed is:
l. A cover for ballet slippers formed mainly of non-elastic material having an elastic insert in the toe portion thereof, and a weardevice upon said insert.
2. A cover for ballet slippers formed mainly of non-elastic material having .an elastic portion extending from the instep to the toe portion and bottom portion.
3. A cover for ballet slippers having an elastic portion extending from. the instep' to the toe portion and backwardly within backwardly within the the bottom portion, and a flexible wear de-' vice upon the toe portion of the elastic.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signabottom seam 2 terminating at the lower end ture.
