Abstract
373,942. Boxes. CROWTHER, C. H., 35, Holdenhurst Avenue, Finchley, London. Dec. 2, 1931, No. 33410. [Class 18.] In a box or case in which the base, two sides, and, if desired, the lid are connected together in the flat by angle metal binding strips which are bent in setting up the box, the angle strips are toothed along one edge and thereby secured to the box members so that channels or grooves are formed between the edges of the members and the inner surfaces of the strips for the reception of the edges of the ends of the box. As shown the angle strips 6 connect the sides and base of the box and the lid is provided with separate angle strips 12, the grooves or channels 11, formed between the inner faces of the plain parts 10 of the strip serving to receive the ends 2 which project above the level of the sides 1 to engage the channels provided at the ends of the lid 3. The strips are provided with cut-away portions 5 to facilitate bending and the teeth 9 are formed by turning back perpendicularly to one flange of the strip, tapering tangs initially projecting laterally from the flange. The lid strips 12 are provided with extensions 13 ending in hooks 14 adapted to be pressed into slots 15 in the parts 10 of the strips 6 to lock the lid in position. The lid may be hinged to one side of the box by forming the strips 12 integrally with the strips 6. The parts 10 of the strips may be provided with indentations 16 to enable them to be secured to the ends 2.
