[Class 18.] In a box having metal strips secured to the bottom, side and top walls for engagement with strips secured to the end walls, one or both sets of strips are provided with pressedout projections, indentations or the equivalent which engage the other set of strips with spring clip or snap action or with projections, indentations or the equivalent provided thereon. As shown, the metal strips 5, Figs. 2 and 4, are of right-angular section and are secured to the outer faces of the box walls 1, 3, 4 by integral teeth 10 along one edge of the strips and so as to leave spaces 12 between the inner faces of the flanges 8 and the ends of the box walls ; the strips 6, Fig. 3, on the end walls 2 are of flat formation and are secured thereto by integral teeth 13 along one edge with the other edges 15 projecting beyond the ends of the walls. When the end walls 2 are assembled with the walls 1, 3, the edges 15 project into the spaces 12, Fig. 7, and struck-up tongues 16, 17 formed respectively on the strips 5, 6 engage with the snap or spring clip action ; the top wall 4 is then similarly engaged with the end walls. The strips 5 may be formed in separate lengths for each of the box walls 1, 3 or in a single length extending along the walls 1, 3, 4 in which case the top wall 4 becomes hinged to one side wall 1. The top wall 4 is additionally secured by lugs 21, projecting from the strips 5 on the walls 1, which pass through slots 22 in the strips 5 on the top wall and are bent down against the walls 1 ; the bent lugs may also be spot welded to the strips on the walls 1 to prevent tampering with the box. When the strips on the bottom wall 3 are separate from those on the walls 1, the wall 3 may be additionally secured in the same manner as the separate top wall. In a modification the tongues may be omitted from the strips 6 in which case the tongues 16 engage shoulders 24, Fig. 13, formed by the edges of the strips 6 ; the shoulders may be formed by gaps 25 in the strips and a pair of strips may be formed from a single strip of metal, as shown ; the teeth 10 securing the strips to box walls being formed by pressing outwards parts of the strip between the gaps 25.
