Abstract

526,139. Band clips. HILL, S. D. March 9, 1939, No. 7606. [Class 44] A band clip of the type described in Specification 203,262, [Class 44], having a worm 8 mounted in a housing 13 carried by one end 6 of the band and engaging notches or the like 11 provided in the other end 10, has the housing formed integral with the hand by bending lateral lugs 7 to the required shape. The free ends of the lugs meet and may be secured by welding. As shown, however, lugs 7 are provided with terminal tongues 9 which are bent up, passed through apertures in a cover plate 14, and riveted over. The cover has depending end flanges 15, 16 with apertures, or preferably slots, which embrace and provide bearings and abutments for the worm. The enlarged head 19 of the worm bears against flange 15 which embraces a reduced neck portion adjacent the head. Flange 16 embraces a reduced end 20 of the worm which may be terminally upset to overlie the edges of the slot in the flange. Alternatively, the flanges 15, 16 may be replaced by washers separate from the cover plate. The edges of the band in the region of the slots 11 may be inclined, as seen in Fig. 2. The lugs 7 may be provided at a short distance from the end of the band, in which case the tongue is formed, projecting beyond the housing, is preferably bevelled off lengthwise to avoid an abrupt edge. As a modification, the housing may be formed from a single lateral lug. Specification 476,704 also is referred to.
