Abstract

1,073,304. Columns for buildings. RIGID FRAME CONSTRUCTION Ltd. Feb. 17. 1964 [Feb. 19, 1963], No. 45866/64. Divided out of 1.011,092. Heading E1B. An elongated structural member such as a pillar or column comprises at least two angularly disposed longitudinally extending limbs 4, Fig. 1, each comprising a web having transverse corrugations presenting flat crest and trough portions 7 braced by transverse portions 8, connecting a pair of spaced apart chord members 3, 3<SP>1</SP>. The edges of the portions 7 project beyond the edges of the portions 8 to provide recesses in the webs within which the chord members are fitted and secured. Two limbs may be connected together along the edges of the chord members 3<SP>1</SP> , to form an L sectioned member, or three limbs may be so connected to form a T-sectioned member, Fig. 4 (not shown): In another construction of a T-sectioned member the inner chord member 3<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5, of the limb forming the stem of the T is secured directly to the web part forming the cross-head of the T. Bearer plates 5, which may having fixing holes 10 Fig. 1, are connected across top and bottom ends of the members. Preferably, the members may be made of metal the several component parts being connected by welding, but a plastics material may also be used.
