Abstract

1,071,859. Compressing stocks of paper prior to packaging. KIMBERLY CLARK CORPORATION. Nov. 21, 1963 [Nov. 23, 1962], No. 46049/63. Heading B8C. A method and apparatus which may be used in packaging folded crepe tissues by the process described in Specification 958,496, passes the stack through the nip of at least one pair of cylindrical drums, the nip width depending on the paper moisture content and varying proportionately between lower limits of 0.44 inch and 0À75 inch and upper limits of 0À70 inch and 1À37 inch per 800 tissue thickness stack for a moisture content of from 4% to 11% respectively. The apparatus may comprise a series of rollers 16-21 and 22-26 round which pass metal belts 37, 54 respectively. A further thin belt 55 passes round the belt 54 and auxiliary rollers 56, 57 to ensure stripping of the upper tissue from the belt 54. The nip between the opposed rollers is adjustable by motors 47 and stops 50. Apparatus having three, two and one pair of opposed rollers is also described (Figs. 6-8, not shown).
