Abstract
A tablet which is readily disintegrated by water comprises a slowly available fertilizer, a temporary binder, and a lubricant. The tablet may also comprise a minor proportion of a readily available fertilizer. The tablet disintegrates within a minute. The slowly available fertilizer comprises urea-formaldehyde, calcium phosphate, or fritted potash. It may comprise a minor proportion of calcium sulphate. The readily available fertilizer comprises ferrous, ferrous ammonium, or potassium sulphate. The binder comprises alginic acid; sodium, calcium, or calcium-ammonium alginate; or vermiculite plus sodium lignin sulphonate. Sodium alginate may have a particle size of less than 80 mesh (Tyler). The lubricant is talc. The tablet may comprise 4-10% of talc and 0.5-5% of sodium alginate.
