Manures.-A manure consists of finely divided peat or peat moss, and an ammonium salt, such as ammonium sulphate, in such proportions that the ammonia given off when the products is applied to the soil is sufficient to neutralize the free acids in the peat or to render the peat slightly alkaline. Calcium carbonate may be added to the manure when the soil is deficient in this substance, and any other artificial or natural manures may be added. Specifications 14487/15 and 152,779 are referred to.
