Abstract

1,068,631. Stud and socket fastenings. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Jan. 29, 1965 [Feb. 13, 1964], No. 6184/64. Heading E2B. [Also in Division F2] In a device for coupling a cylindrical member 10 to a rod 8 fitting within the member the latter has a closed end 14 provided therein with a transverse slot 15 and the rod has radial extensions 18 which are profiled so that. after insertion of the extensions through the slot, by relative longitudinal movement and relative rotation the members are not disengageable by reverse relative longitudinal movement. There is a locking member 28 of tubular form, axially slidable within the member 10, and having means for engaging the extensions 18 and also having means for locking the member 10 and rod against relative rotation therebetween. The device is used for assembling and withdrawing fuel elements of a nuclear reactor, and an appliance for inserting the locking member into operative position is described.
