Abstract

1,101,142. Nuclear fuel element assemblies. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 21 Dec., 1965 [15 Jan., 1965], No. 1981/65. Heading G6C. A nuclear fuel element assembly is constructed by arranging sheathed fuel rods in spaced parallel relationship between end supports, wrapping round the cluster of rods one or more hollow members, expanding the member or members by fluid pressure in order to clamp the rods together, and then fitting a circumferential bracing strip in position. The hollow members may be expanded pneumatically or hydraulicallv.
