Abstract

1,190,189. Fuel elements. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 15 April, 1969 [23 April, 1968], No. 19257/69. Heading G6C. A support for a sheathed hollow fuel rod 5 within an annular outer shell 6 comprises a saddle 2 of tubular form whose upper portion 3 has a rim with a bearing surface 4 for centring the fuel rod 5, a series of projections 7 on the inner surface of the saddle 2 each containing a bore 8 for receiving a metal tie rod 9. Each tie rod 9 has a head 10 bearing on the associated projection 7 and its opposite end, after passing through the shell 6, co-operates with a lock nut 12 housed within a recess 13 in the shell. The tie rods 9 can be prestressed or deformed after assembly, to produce some tension in them and to adjust the axial position of the saddle 2 in the shell 6.
