Abstract

919,986. Nuclear fuel elements. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. May 19, 1960 [May 23, 1959], No. 17774/60. Class 39 (4). A nuclear fuel element comprises a plurality of fuel rods arranged parallel to one another and spaced by means of metal straps which extend to and fro between rows of rods. As shown in Fig. 1, fuel rods 2 are spaced by straps 1 which are welded to protective tube 3. In an alterna. tive arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown), the fuel element is cylindrical and the rods are in concentric circles with straps passing around and between the circles and crossing one another. In Fig. 3 the straps 7 are in contact with the rods 8 around part of their circumference.
