Abstract
1,116,106. Nuclear fuel element assemblies. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. 12 May, 1966 [25 May, 1965], No. 21048/66. Heading G6C. In an assembly of elongated parallel nuclear fuel elements 22, the elements are held in position by a grid structure 44 each aperture of which is provided with resilient support means 52 and spaced rigid support means 54 arranged on the opposite sides of the aperture. The resilient means may be a spring finger or strip displaced from the grid, or may be a cantilever tab. The rigid support means comprise dimples, slotted projections, or solid material attached to the grid; two rigid means are associated with each resilient means, one on either side longitudinally of the fuel element. The grid comprises interwoven straps and is connected to a can 30 provided with holes for coolant flow. The can may be replaced by corner rods, in which case only resilient support means are provided around the periphery of the grid.
