Abstract
984,156. Tubular heat-exchanger elements. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Aug. 30, 1963 [Sept. 14, 1962], No. 35210/62. Heading F4S. [Also in Division G6] A heat transfer surface, such as a nuclear fuel element can, comprises a wire mesh sleeve attached to a cylindrical member. A cylindrical fuel element can 1 has a pre-formed braided wire sleeve 2 drawn on to it and attached by a split collar 3, which is crimped to engage the wire and then brazed to the can. Alternatively, the wire sleeve may be turned into recessed end caps on the fuel element and secured therein by a circlip (Fig. 2, not shown). The wire may also be brazed to the can at various points.
