Abstract

1,067,922. Fastener driving tools. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. April 12, 1966 [April 28, 1965], No. 17778/65. Heading B4C. A hand-held tool for driving fasteners, such as a nail 11, into hard materials comprises a housing 8 for the nail and is provided with means 9 to grip and frictionally retain the nail or a supporting washer 10 thereon, the means requiring greater effort to remove the nail from its housing than to insert it into the housing. The retaining means is in the form of a plunger 9 loaded by a spring 23 and limited in its travel by means of a pin 25 engaging with the ends of a slot 26 formed in the plunger. In a modification the plunger may be arranged at right angles to the axis of the nail and provided with two angled faces the face nearer to the open end of the housing having a less steep angle than that of the other face. A piston 17 for driving the nail may be actuated either directly by a hammer or by the explosive force of a cartridge.
