Abstract
1,162,596. Fastener driving tools. HILTI HANSA G.m.b.H. 25 July, 1967 [1 Aug., 1966; 2 May, 1967], No. 34113/67. Heading B4C. A device for driving fasteners, such as nails or studs, into hard material 10, such as steel, comprises a thrust member 11 movable in a barrel 1, a fastener 7 and a deformable obturator piece 9 which when the fastener is driven therein deforms in a direction opposed to the driving-in direction until limited by the thrust piece, the muzzle of the barrel be shaped so as to prevent radial deformation of the obturator while the fastener is being driven in. The obturator may be made of aluminium or steel. In a modification, the obturator may be formed with a central hole (91, Fig. 3) of smaller diameter than the nail 70 and a washer (110) fitted beneath the head of the nail to form the thrust member. The impact force may be provided by a cartridge or a free piston may be used. In the latter case a cap is placed over the head of the nail to form the thrust member.
