961,312. Fasteners for cartridge-operated tools. ANSTALT FUR MONTAGE-TECHNIK. Dec. 9, 1960 [Dec. 11, 1959], No. 48249/63. Divided out of 961,311. Heading F3A. A washer 24 for locating a fastener in a driving tool is placed on the shank 23 of the fastener near the pointed end so that it will move up the shank when the fastener is driven in, the washer being in the form of a disc and so shaped that it will shatter on being struck. The washer is made of brittle plastics and, in the embodiment of Fig. 4, is formed with a diametral groove 26 in one side and a complementary rib 27 on the other side. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, the washer has flanges 29, 30, the outer flange 30 being of greater axial depth than the inner flange 29. The washer will shatter when struck by the front plunger of the tool during driving in of the fastener.
