Abstract

1,066,837. Panels for use as oven doors. PARKINSON COWAN Ltd. Dec. 14, 1965 [Sept. 29, 1964], No. 39525/64. Heading A4D. Panels for use, e.g. as oven doors, comprise two tray-like walls 10 and 11 secured in mouth-to-mouth engagement in which each wall is provided with a window aperture 15 closed by a rigid sheet of transparent refractory material secured against the wall at the edge of the aperture by clamping means, the arrangement being such that the window apertures register with one another and the sheets of transparent material are in parallel, spaced arrangement. The edges of the walls 10 and 11 defining the apertures are rolled over to form marginal flanges 16 and 17 which extend into grooves in sealing strips 18 and 19 respectively. A clamp 24 is secured by a screw 23 and a U-shaped clip 22 to a U-shaped bracket 20 which is itself secured to the wall 10, and the refractory material 26 is clamped between the strip 18 and the edge 25 of the clamp. The wall 11 has a similar arrangement of bracket 28, clip 29, clamp 30 and screw 31 for clamping the glass sheet 27. Clamps are spaced at intervals around the periphery of the glass sheets. A channel sectioned strip 33, e.g. of silicone rubber, between the two sheets of glass and extending completely around the edges of the sheet .seals the space between the sheets and hides the clamps. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the clips are S-shaped and an asbestos rope (37) is located within a channel formed by the outer surface of the first loop (34) and the rolled-over edge of the wall and is compressed against the surface of the glass sheet when the latter is clamped in position.
