1,066,482. Machinery guards; external bandbrakes. PRICE MACHINE GUARDS Ltd. April 27, 1964 [Feb. 16, 1963], No. 6374/63. Headings F2E and F2J. When a guard flap 12 of a book-sewing machine is swung or remains displaced whilst needles are being passed into the work, the machine motor is switched off or declutched and the machine main shaft 16 braked. Movement of flap 12 swings the forked end 28 of bell-crank 26 out of engagement with a transverse pin 28 of a brake-operating pawl 22, which drops on to a machine mainshaft cam 18 so that the pawl pivot 23 of the brake shoe operating toggle 21 is moved outward to clamp the shoes 19 on the brake drum 17. The common brake shoe pivot 20 is adjustably mounted by a bolt 40, which may be spring loaded, pivoted at 41. Flap 12 is pivoted at 14 and has a side plate 31 engaging the main motor power or declutching switch 36 and carrying a peg 32 abutting an extension of crank 15 pivoted to rod 30 and connected to the bell-crank 26 by rod 29. A second guard flap 37 is pivoted to rod 30 which has a cam operating the main motor switch.
