Abstract

[Also in Division E1] An earth scraper has a scraping blade and a conveyer for lifting excavated earth into a bowl. Endless chains of the conveyer pass round shaft mounted driven sprockets and idler rollers, both the sprockets and the rollers comprising two or more segments which are bolted together with annular backing plates so that the segments can be removed and replaced one at a time without removing the chains or shafts. The conveyer is mounted for vertical movement by means of a link (112) pivoted to both the conveyer (at 110) and the scraper frame (at 114) and has spring means (128 or 192) for urging the conveyer towards the ground over guide means (148) which can guide the lower end of the conveyer into any of three positions depending on the quantity and size of the excavated earth.
