Abstract

1369735 Endless chain trackers BF VAN VALKENBURGH 13 Sept 1972 [27 Sept 1971] 42559/72 Heading E1F An excavator, particularily for graves, comprises a generally rectangular open frame 10, a carriage 23 guided for movement along the frame, a bucket frame 29 guided for generally vertical movement in the carriage, an endless chain 63 carrying digger buckets 27 wound around sprockets on drive shaft 61 and idler shaft 74, a motor 21 on the carriage driving separate power means for rotating the bucket chain, for moving the carriage along the frame and for moving the bucket frame vertically, and a conveyor 70 arranged to receive material from the buckets and having a positionable discharge portion 150. Motor 21 drives a pump supplying hydraulic fluid to motors which drive sprockets on shafts 95, 77 meshing with chains extending along the frame 10 and the bucket frame 29, and also a sprocket on shaft 102 which drives the bucket chain drive shaft 61 through chain and sprocket drives on pivoted arms 100, 113. The buckets discharge material onto a horizontal conveyor belt 133, Fig. 12, in a trough 132, which discharges through a hopper 165 onto a further conveyor belt 180 in a trough 177. The trough 132 is movable horizontally on the bucket frame 29 by a hand winch 147, and a further winch 170 controls the elevation of the trough 177 about shaft 168; the trough 177 is also carried for rotation about a vertical axis, to vary the direction of discharge of excavated material, by rollers 162 engaging flanged ring 153.
