Abstract

1,065,454. Moving coil transducers. AKUSTISCHE U KINO-GER€TE G.m.b.H. Sept. 23, 1963 [Dec. 13, 1962], No. 37361/63. Heading H4J. A moving coil microphone, loud-speaker or earphone comprises a cylindrical member 3, having an inturned end, in which is concentrically disposed a substantially cylindrical permanent magnet 1. An annular air gap 5 for a moving coil 6 is defined by the inturned end of member 3 and a front polepiece 2 of the magnet 1. The magnet 1 is secured to, and centred in, the cylindrical member 3 by a body made by Injection-moulding or pressure casting a filler material in the form of metal which flows under pressure or of a thermoplastic material. The material fills entirely the cavity 8 between the magnet 1 and the cylindrical member 3 except at the air gap 5. The outside of the cylindrical member 3 has a pot-shaped cover 10 of the same filler material. An extension is provided with a disc-shaped flange 9, a cylindrical portion 12 and a beaded-over portion 13a. The portion 13a secures a diaphragm 14 while portion 12 engages an outer, pot 11. Register marks or fitting pins may facilitate assembly of the diaphragm 14 and pot 11. The outer pot 11 defines an acoustic chamber, acoustic resistance material 19 and bores 18 providing communication to the rear of the diaphragm 14. One or two bores 18 permit passage of lead wires 20. A neck 28 may vent the rear of the diaphragm 14 to provide a microphone having a cardioid characteristic. A front protective cover 16 is provided. Only the fitting surfaces between a rear polepiece 4 and the cylindrical member 3 and the inturned end of the cylindrical member 3 and the front polepiece 2 are machined.
