Abstract

1,065,075. Suspended ceilings. DOWSON & DORSON Ltd. June 4, 1964 [June 15, 1963; Oct. 31, 1963], No. 23281/64. Heading E1W. In a ceiling structure of the kind in which a series of panels 52, 64 is hung from a framework of sheet metal elements, the framework consists in a beam 12 of L-section extending around the wall 10 with one limb 18 providing ledges for the outer edges of the panels 64, and a rectangular grid of beams within and spaced from the beam 12 consisting in longitudinal beams 22a, 23 and crossbeams 22, 24 in the same plane and straps 68 to support the framework, to the underside of which the panels 52, 64 are secured by spring clips 58, 66 (to give a continuous surface). The crossbeams 24 (channels) may extend from wall to wall supported at their ends on or integral with plates 40, attached to the wall 10 through the beams 12 by pins 42, and pass through holes 26 in the Z-beams 22a, 23. The beams may be extensible telescopically or by connector plates 44. Supporting clips 58, 66 for the panels 52, 64 are received in holes in the beams 22, 22a, 23. The vertical limb of the beams 12 has a series of tongues 18a bent outward to overdie and anchor the edges of the panels 64. In the holes 26 in the beams 23 are formed tongues 30 which can be bent over and passed through slots in the cross beams 24 as shown at 32 (Fig. 6) and twisted corner pieces 34 securing the beams 22, 22a together by tongues 35 passed through slots and twisted. Cross braces 62 are screwed to the beams to stiffen the framework.
