Abstract

A mouldable exothermic composition comprising in finely divided form, aluminium, an oxidizing agent therefor, a refractory filler and an inorganic fibrous material mixed with a non-volatile polyhydric alcohol such as glycerol. Preferably the oxidizing agent is sodium or potassium perchlorate, the fibrous material glass-fibre or slag-wool and the refractory filler silica flour. The composition may also contain a small proportion of a fluoride and the polyhydric alcohol may form between 10 and 30% by weight of the composition.
