Abstract

A friction-promoting composition which is disposed between the overlapping ends of a strap or wire before the ends are secured together comprises a viscous carrier mixed with grit. The viscous carrier may consist of asphalt or grease, and in an example given comprises a grease and an asphalt adhesive in the proportions by weight of 1 : 3 or 4. Nine parts by weight of grit to one part of grease is mixed with the carrier. An aluminium oxide or silicon carbide grit is used having a particle size in the range of 80-180 mesh (U.S.A. standard).
